Tour Planning Considerations
When planning your tour consider the following:
If using Google Maps exclude the use of highways. Try and keep off Interstates and four lane roadways wherever possible.
Ensure that when using minor roads there will be opportunities to pull off the road and allow any traffic to pass the caravan.
Ensure you plan for frequent stops for restroom usage and refueling.
If the distance being driven will take multiple hours consider a rest/break stop which includes access to food and beverages as well as restrooms.
Tour Leaders/Drivers Guidelines
As a Tour Leader you will need to make sure that all drivers participating in your tour adhere to the following guidelines:
Drivers in the caravan should at all times ensure that they can see the car in front AND behind.
If the car behind is no longer in view the driver should slow down allowing the following car to catch up. If the car does not catch up within a reasonable distance then the driver should signal and pull over to the side of the road. If all drivers are paying attention to the progress of the caravan all drivers will ultimately pull over and stop.
If the leader or a driver comes to a junction and is turning either to the left or right they should make sure the car behind is aware of the turn being made. If the car behind is some distance away or is out of sight at the time of making the turn then the driver should stop at the roadside after making the left or right turn so as to be visible to the following car.
If as a driver you come to a junction and there is no Model A parked on the roadside to your left or right is is safe to assume that you continue straight ahead.
